Outdoors enthusiasts tend to be know where the best places are to set up camp, fish, hunt, and ultimately find comfort in nature without the hubbub of city life. According to some of the biggest outdoorsmen around, if you’re a fan of camping, Bay Area Houston is the place to be.
Well, what is Bay Area Houston? Bay Area Houston is an area of Texas that is tucked in the space between Houston, the fourth largest city (by population) in the United States, and the Gulf Coast. It’s most notable cities include League City, Nassau Bay, Kemah, and Seabrook, though the area’s economic partnership (BAHEP) covers communities from Pasadena to Galveston. Naturally, the big city of Houston makes the area such a draw for visitors because they can travel readily from big city hustle & bustle to the calm, cool, and relaxing atmosphere of Bay Area Houston.
Back to the why of Bay Area Houston and what it means for camping. The area is dedicated to preserving natural beauty and building the growth of its population around it. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to get out & enjoy nature to its fullest.
If you decide that camping in Bay Area Houston is in your future, keep the following in mind:
Define the Type of Camping You Mean – This seems like a ridiculous question until you realize that camping can mean both having an RV and tent camping. If you’re going the RV route, places like La Marque, San Leon, and Kemah are highlights.
State Parks Win Out – If you’re going the tent camping way, then you’re probably going to find that state parks are the way to go most of the time. Still, there are some other parks that can be included. Some notable spots include Galveston Island State Park, Brazos Bend State Park, and Bayou Campground. Be aware that tent camping may require you to venture out a little more than you think.
Always Be Aware of the Weather – Remember that you’re in Texas, so it’s going to be hot. Yes, you can find more agreeable weather besides that of summer, but summer is usually when kids are out of school & family vacations are in full swing. Average temperatures for the Bay Area Houston can be in the 90s and 100s, and that’s not counting humidity. Even at night, temperatures can be fairly warm, so be prepared.
If you choose southeast Texas for camping, Bay Area Houston is a pretty cool place to check out. Once you’ve defined the type of camping that’s right for you and your family, you’ll be able to find a location that suits your needs. This is key as many areas designated for use in camping don’t have enough variety to handle RVers or tent campers. As with any prolonged adventure outside, you should maintain some attention to the weather and any adverse changes, but so long as you are prepared for most weather (especially sun screen & plenty of water in the Texas sun – whew!), you’ll be OK.
